Deciding to do a cleanse for the first time can be a daunting experience when it means that when walking into most health food stores, you'll be met with an entire section of boxed cleanses, each claiming to be better than the one before it. So how do you decide which one to do? In this article, I want to briefly discuss some cleansing herbs and supplementary ingredients that will ensure your first cleanse is gentle but effective enough to clean your body from the inside out!

Things to look for :

1. Milk Thistle, Schizandra and N-Acetyl Cysteine for the Liver: These liver purifiants work to up levels of glutathione – the body's ultimate antioxidant and neutralizer of free radicals that can age you prematurely and damage your DNA. The liver is one of the most important detoxification organs in the body and giving it the support it needs to do the job it has to do every minute of the day is vital for protecting your cells and organism. Keep in mind that you can take liver support substances regularly to ease the burden on this organ and stop a build up of toxins on a continual basis as a way to increase vitality and longevity.

2.Burdock and Pomegranate to Cleanse the Blood: Blood carries our life force and its health creates our overall health. Therefore, its purity is essential as toxins and chemicals in the blood will damage our cells, cause excess inflammation and reduce energy production. Burdock root is a fantastic blood cleanser and also acts as a mild diuretic to increase urination and sweating which also helps with elimination of toxins as well. Pomegranate has been used for centuries to clean the blood, as a balancer of cholesterol and lipids, and as a cleanser of arteries.

3.Triphala, Cascara Sagrada or Magnesium for Bowel Support
: When detoxing, it is important to not only cleanse the organs and the blood, but to actually eliminate what your organs have neutralized as well. One of the things to consider is the movement of your bowels. A lot of the time, when we dump toxins into our elimination system, it can slow everything down and cause putrefecation in the digestive tract resulting in flora imbalance, the re absorption of toxins, and comprising of the integrity of the intestinal wall.

Other things to consider while you are detoxing include meditation, massage, infrared sauna, hot water and lemon juice for lymph drainage, rebounding, and regular green drinks to detoxify and alkalize. Be sure to also get enough rest and replenish your gut with probiotics!

Happy Cleansing !
